President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has shed more light on the operations, challenges and future expansion plans of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery during the Facts Behind the Offer Presentation held in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Dangote disclosed that the refinery experienced a difficult period in January and February, during which, according to him, the operation was not making money.
He explained that there were operational challenges, including periods when the refinery’s Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) was down, but efforts were made to ensure that the petroleum products market remained adequately supplied.
Dangote stressed the company’s commitment to maintaining a steady supply of petroleum products and preventing a return to the long fuel queues Nigerians experienced in previous years.
“We will not allow queues to come back,” he declared.
He further stated that the refinery’s vision goes beyond meeting Nigeria’s domestic energy needs, as the company intends to play a major role in supplying petroleum products to other African countries.
As part of its continental expansion strategy, Dangote Group is developing fuel-storage and distribution infrastructure around Walvis Bay, Namibia, with plans for a pipeline corridor through Botswana to Zimbabwe and Zambia, with possible future extensions to other Southern African markets.
The presentation came as Dangote Petroleum Refinery launched its public offer of 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ?525 per share, opening on September 14, 2026, and scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.
The refinery currently has a stated CDU capacity of about 700,000 barrels per day, while the company is pursuing an expansion that could eventually raise capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.
The development forms part of Dangote Group’s wider ambition to strengthen Africa’s refining capacity, improve regional fuel distribution and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
