Speaking during commemorative activities, Trump paid tribute to those who lost their lives, their families, first responders and other heroes whose courage became a symbol of national resilience. In a presidential proclamation marking Patriot Day 2026, Trump declared that although a quarter of a century has passed since the attacks, the passage of time must never erase the memory of those who died. He said America’s vow to “Never Forget” must continue to be passed from generation to generation. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijacked commercial aircraft struck the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia, while another plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 2001. At the Pentagon remembrance ceremony on September 11, 2026, Trump joined families and officials in honouring the victims, particularly the 184 people killed at the Pentagon.
