Politics, in its simplest form, is the process of decision-making and the distribution of roles, responsibilities, and authority among a group of people. While many see politics as a purely human activity, its roots can be traced far beyond earthly governments, even back to the very beginning of creation.

In the biblical narrative, politics began in heaven. The moment Almighty God said to the heavenly hosts, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26), a form of deliberation and consensus was introduced. This statement was not merely a declaration; it was a divine council meeting - a collaborative engagement involving God and His angels. It reflects consultation, unity of purpose, and shared vision, which are the foundational principles of politics.

Politics at its core is not about manipulation or corruption, as it is often perceived today. Rather, it is about decision-making for the good of all, involving dialogue, agreement, and execution. In heaven, before man was created, there was already an order - God as the Supreme Leader, angels as messengers and ministers, each with defined roles and responsibilities. This heavenly order mirrors the structures we see in governance: leadership, advisers, executors, and a clear chain of command.

When God shared His intention to create man in His own image, it showed that leadership involves communication, inclusion, and vision-sharing. Just as in politics, decisions that affect the community are discussed before they are implemented. In this way, the “rudiment of politics” -the principles of governance, collaboration, and structured authority- began in heaven itself.

Unfortunately, over time, human politics has often strayed from its divine model, being tainted by selfish ambition, injustice, and greed. Yet, if we return to the original heavenly pattern -leadership rooted in justice, unity, and collective responsibility -politics could once again become a tool for harmony, progress, and the common good.

Therefore, politics did not start in the palaces of kings or in the chambers of parliaments. It began in the courts of heaven, when the Creator shared His vision and involved His hosts in the decision that would shape the destiny of mankind.
