President’s Address: A Call to Strengthen Celebrity Journalism

In her opening speech, the President of CJPAN, Mrs. Funmi Olowosegun, warmly welcomed attendees and reflected on the association’s remarkable progress over the years.

She noted that today marks “another milestone in our collective journey as media professionals, storytellers, and chroniclers of the Nigerian entertainment and celebrity world.”

Speaking further, she emphasized CJPAN’s resilience in the face of major industry challenges such as dwindling revenue, fake news, digital disruption, and shrinking print readership.

According to her, the association’s past and present administrations have remained focused on its three core objectives:. Professionalism (Through continuous training and media development workshops) Partnership (By strengthening relationships with public and private institutions) and Progress (Via transparent communication and inclusive leadership that promote unity among members)
She extended special appreciation to past and present executives whose “creativity, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication continue to sustain the integrity of this noble association.”

A New Era for Celebrity Journalism

Mrs. Olowosegun reminded members that the AGM is not only for reports and reflections but also for the renewal of purpose, stating:

“The world of journalism—particularly celebrity journalism—is changing rapidly. Social media has blurred the lines between verified news and sensational gossip. Yet, our responsibility remains clear: to inform, to educate, and to entertain with truth and integrity.”

She charged CJPAN to continue leading the transformation of entertainment reporting in Nigeria by promoting ethical, factual, and positive journalism.

Looking ahead, she outlined the administration’s priorities for 2026:

• Expanding Media Partnerships

To improve visibility and influence of CJPAN members.

• Enhancing Journalists’ Welfare

With focus on health, safety, and support systems.

• Driving Digital Innovation

To help members adapt to new media technologies.

• Establishing Mentorship Platforms

To develop young entertainment journalists committed to credible and responsible reporting.

A United Voice for Ethical Media Practice

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Olowosegun reaffirmed that CJPAN’s greatest strength lies in its unity and professionalism.

She expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, and media friends whose support continues to advance the mission of the association.

“Let us continue to uphold the spirit of brotherhood, discipline, and professionalism. Let us speak with one voice and act with one vision — to make CJPAN a model for excellence in journalism.”

**Long live CJPAN.

Long live the Nigerian media industry.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.**
