VENO TV: Uproar as Security Operatives Attempt to Arrest El-Rufai in Abuja By Kayode Adoide Date: 12-02-26
There was uproar on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as security operatives allegedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, upon his arrival from Cairo, Egypt.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Adekeye, security agents approached El-Rufai immediately after he disembarked from the aircraft and requested that he follow them for questioning.
However, the former governor reportedly declined the request, insisting that he would only honour a formal invitation.
“If you invite me, I will honour your invitation,” El-Rufai was quoted as saying.
Adekeye further alleged that during the encounter, the security operatives seized El-Rufai’s international passport, describing the action as unprofessional and a violation of his fundamental rights.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They, however, snatched his passport,” the statement read.
As at the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the security agencies involved to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The development has sparked reactions across political circles and social media, with many Nigerians calling for transparency, due process, and respect for the rule of law in the conduct of security operations.
VENO TV will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge.
