The tussle for who succeeds Segun Agbaje, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank has stated providing clear answers, investigation conducted by this medium has shown.
Agbaje took over as M.D in June 2011 following the death of his predecessor, Tayo Aderinokun.
His tenure of ten years as stipulated by the nation’s apex financial institution – Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) – ends in June 2021.
And interestingly, the month of October 2021 has reportedly been fixed for his “final†exit.
Those who are familiar with happenings at the bank maintained a tussle of who takes his position is already on.
Sources in the financial institution have gone ahead to narrow down Mr. Agbaje’s likely successors to three individuals who are top directors.
Ademola Odeyemi, Mrs. Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya, and Haruna Musa have been unveiled by sources as possible candidates when Mr. Agbaje eventually takes a bow.
Checks by highstreet.ng revealed the trio as deeply involved in the success story witnessed in the last ten years of Agbaje’s reign.
Agbaje’s tenure with – Demola Odeyemi, Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya, and Haruna Musa as worthy lieutenants – saw the bank’s Assets and shareholders’ funds grown to ₦4.945trillion and ₦814.4billion respectively as of December 31, 2020.
“They (Demola, Olusanya, and Haruna) are the key guys and have done pretty well. Their inputs reverberate across the length and breadth of bank and beyondâ€, a source pointed out.
Regarded in the scheme of things as first among equal, Ademola Odeyemi, A 1990 graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is the executive director in charge of International Banking and Strategy. He is also saddled with the responsibility of coordinating GTBank’s subsidiaries across the globe. Odeyemi who joined GTBank in 1997, is said to be a close ally of the outgoing CEO and also enjoys supports of major stakeholders.
On her part Mrs. Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya, who joined the bank in 1998 has over 20 years of banking experience which spans Transaction Services, Treasury, Assets and Liability Management, Corporate Finance, and Wholesale Banking. She’s an Executive Director and Heads Wholesale Banking Division of the bank. She studied at the University of Ibadan and University of Liverpool where she obtained B. Pharm and MBA, Finance and Accounting respectively. Mrs. Olusanya was also at Cranfield School of Management between 2011 and 2012.
Haruna Musa, a Master’s Degree holder in Finance and Management from Cranfield University, United Kingdom, on the other hand, is responsible for the bank’s retail & commercial banking and public sector businesses with the North-East division. He was appointed Executive Director in October 2015. Mr. Musa had his first degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
