Oyo State Governor, , has met with families of victims recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, appealing for patience, understanding and cooperation as the government intensifies efforts to secure their release.
The Governor met with affected families, community leaders and residents at the open field of Ahoro Esiele LA Basic School, Esinle, where he assured them that his administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safe rescue of the abductees.
Makinde acknowledged that words alone could not ease the pain, anxiety and uncertainty being experienced by the affected families. However, he pledged that the state government would push beyond every limit to achieve a successful rescue operation.
Speaking during the meeting, the Governor recalled the sacrifices made by operatives of the Western Security Network, Amotekun, noting that nearly 200 personnel had lost their lives while combating security challenges across Oyo State. He disclosed that since the abduction occurred, he has been holding security meetings twice daily and working closely with relevant security agencies to facilitate the safe return of the victims.
He further stated that while the families and communities remain deeply hurt by the incident, he equally shares in their grief and concern. According to him, regardless of any grievances or demands the abductors may have, their actions remain cruel, unacceptable and inhumane.
In emotional appeals, Professor Wole Alamu, husband of the abducted school principal, Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, whose daughter-in-law and four grandchildren are among those being held captive, urged the Governor to do everything within his power to secure the safe return of their loved ones.
Similarly, Mr. Aliu Saidi, a relative of one of the victims, appealed to the government and security agencies not to relent in their efforts until all those abducted regain their freedom.
The Governor later held a brief private meeting with families of the abducted pupils and teachers, where he provided further reassurance of the government's commitment to the rescue operation and promised continued engagement until the victims are safely reunited with their families.
