As part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 27th anniversary of democratic governance in Nigeria, the Federal Government on Thursday, June 11, 2026, commissioned the six-lane Highway FCT 105 in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the moderator described the project as a clear demonstration of the dividends of democracy, noting that Nigerians are beginning to witness tangible infrastructural development under democratic rule.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, officially inaugurated the highway.
In his address, the Vice President stated that the occasion was more than the commissioning of a road, stressing that it represented the fulfilment of promises made to Nigerians.
"Today, we are not merely commissioning a road; we are keeping our word to the people. The Renewed Hope Agenda is for every Nigerian, not just those at the centre. This six-lane highway is a game changer that will boost economic activities and save valuable time for commuters."
He thanked the people of Kuje for their support and urged residents, traditional rulers, and community leaders to protect the infrastructure. He also commended the contractor for the successful execution of the project and encouraged Nigerians to continue paying their taxes to support national development.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, welcomed guests to what he described as the third day of project commissioning activities marking President Tinubu's third year in office.
Wike disclosed that the road project was originally awarded on February 1, 2022, but gained momentum after the current administration directed interventions across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
According to him, the road was once in a deplorable condition and had become a major political issue due to the hardship experienced by motorists and residents.
"The people of Kuje will never forget what this road used to be. The Garage Junction was a death trap, but today it has been transformed into a modern four-lane carriageway. The duplication of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road has also been completed to ease transportation and stimulate economic growth."
The FCT Minister further revealed that the project forms part of infrastructure investments worth over ?54 billion aimed at restoring hope to residents of the territory.
In his characteristic humorous manner, Wike praised the Arab Contractors handling the project, joking that both he and the contractor frequently worried about funding challenges.
"Each time I called the contractor, his blood pressure would rise, and whenever he asked for money, mine would also rise. In fact, because of this project, I started fasting," he said, drawing laughter from the audience.
Also speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda, commended President Tinubu for fulfilling his promises to Nigerians and lauded the commitment of Minister Wike towards transforming infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory.
The commissioning ceremony attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents who hailed the project as a major milestone in the development of the FCT.
