Fresh controversy has erupted in Bayelsa State following allegations surrounding the death of a young Ijaw man, Patrick Peresode, whose case has generated outrage on social media and renewed calls for justice.
Popular social commentator, VeryDarkMan, while reacting to the incident in a trending video, alleged that influential individuals may be attempting to suppress public discussion of the matter. According to him, several people advised him not to speak about the case, but he insisted that he would continue to demand accountability.

At the center of the controversy is Apostle Bodmas Prince Kemepade, described as the Chairman of Ijaw Cultural Heritage and Temple of Woyin, as well as a politically connected figure in Bayelsa State. According to the allegations, Bodmas wields considerable influence within traditional, political, and security circles.

Reports indicate that Patrick Peresode had publicly criticized Bodmas on social media. In one Facebook post allegedly made on December 1, 2025, Patrick reportedly made remarks interpreted by some as sarcasm directed at Bodmas. In another post dated January 14, 2026, he allegedly accused Bodmas of misleading Ijaw youths through traditional practices rather than empowering them economically.

According to accounts shared by family members and witnesses, events took a dramatic turn shortly afterward. It was alleged that on January 15, 2026, a group of men linked to Bodmas arrived in Patrick's community searching for him. Witnesses reportedly claimed that Patrick and his younger brother were subsequently taken away.
Patrick's family, worried by his disappearance, allegedly approached a traditional chief priest identified as Onyetari, who was said to have close ties with Bodmas. According to the family, they were informed that Patrick was being disciplined for challenging powerful figures in the community.
For several days, family members reportedly searched police stations and detention facilities in a bid to locate him. They eventually traced him to a police station in Bayelsa State. According to his sister, Patrick later narrated that he had been subjected to severe physical assault and torture.

The family further alleged that efforts to secure his release were delayed due to financial constraints and procedural difficulties. Matters took a tragic turn on January 20 when Patrick's condition reportedly deteriorated significantly.

He was rushed through several medical facilities, including a General Hospital, the Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri, and later the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. Medical personnel allegedly informed the family that Patrick had suffered a severe spinal injury and urgently required specialized spinal surgery.
Despite efforts to save his life, Patrick Peresode reportedly passed away on January 29, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked anger among many youths and activists, with calls for a thorough investigation.

VeryDarkMan, in his reaction, urged authorities not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet, insisting that justice must be served regardless of the influence of those involved.

As of the time of filing this report, law enforcement authorities have not publicly released the outcome of any investigation, nor has any court established criminal responsibility in connection with Patrick Peresode's death.

The case continues to attract public attention, with many observers calling for transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation to determine the true circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Justice delayed, they say, is justice denied.
