Former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, popularly known as Baba Kabiru, is trending on social media following a viral video in which he made a striking claim about his years in public office.
Aregbesola, who served as Governor of Osun State for two consecutive terms between 2010 and 2018 before becoming Minister of Interior, declared that he did not own a personal house in Osun State throughout his eight years as governor.
According to him:
"I remain the first and only governor in Nigeria's history to serve a full eight-year tenure without owning a personal house in my state.
For those eight years in my fatherland of Ilesa, I lived in my friend's apartment.
I put out an open challenge to anyone with proof to the contrary: come forward and produce it."
The statement has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians commending what they describe as a demonstration of modest living, while others have called for independent verification of the claim.
The former governor, who also served as Nigeria's Minister of Interior from 2019 to 2023, made the remarks in a video now circulating widely across various social media platforms.
