VENO tv WEDDINGS VS MARRIAGE Mubo Okosun’s New Project Unveiled
Date: 29-08-26

Relationship and family coach, Mubo Okosun, has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding paid marriage counselling, matchmaking and relationship coaching, arguing that Nigerians should place greater value on preparing for marriage than on spending heavily on wedding ceremonies.

Okosun questioned why people are often quick to criticise pastors and relationship experts who charge for professional counselling services, especially when many of them have consistently offered free advice to singles and couples through social media platforms and YouTube.

According to him, there is nothing wrong with extending such services to a wider audience on a professional basis.

She noted that matchmaking is a specialised enterprise that requires experience, discretion, emotional intelligence and an understanding of compatibility.

Okosun asked whether it makes sense to spend as much as ?20 million on a wedding ceremony, only for the marriage to collapse within a few months.
He argued that investing in a qualified marriage or relationship coach could prove more valuable than spending extravagantly on the ceremony itself.
According to him, being successful professionally does not automatically translate into success in marriage.

“You can be a great banker, doctor, architect or whatever. That knowledge does not necessarily translate into your marriage,” she stated.
Okosun, who is also involved in relationship and family preparation for people between the ages of 35 and 55, said there is an increasing number of accomplished professionals who remain single despite genuinely desiring marriage.

She disclosed that one-on-one relationship consultations are professional services that deserve proper remuneration, particularly when clients expect quality guidance and measurable results.

She further argued that counselling and matchmaking should be treated with the same seriousness accorded other professional services.
“Can you approach doctors, lawyers, public relations experts and other professionals for free?” she asked.
For Okosun, society must begin to appreciate that preparing for marriage is far more important than merely preparing for a wedding.

She maintained that criticism from bloggers and social media commentators should not discourage professionals who are genuinely committed to helping people build healthier relationships and stronger families.

Her message is simple: the wedding may last for a day, but the marriage is expected to last much longer. Proper preparation, counselling and compatibility should therefore come before expensive celebrations.
As always,
