RELIGION, is indeed a problem in the world right now. Nigeria, the feeding-bottle giant of Africa, is no exception. Every religion is supposedly peaceful! Killings in the name of religion are commonplace across the globe, especially in the Northern part of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.Â
When one region of a nation is lawless, the entire nation is lawless. Thus, Nigeria, a SECULAR State, is lawless. There is lawlessness and insecurity everywhere. Fact! In fact, the situation across the once buoyant and rich country is extremely dire. No place is safe. No one is safe!
Last week Thursday, DEBORAH SAMUEL, a Christian student in Sokoto, Northwest of Nigeria, was gruesomely murdered/killed for blasphemy. She was stoned to death and her body burnt. How cruel/sickening! Her offence: A blasphemous comment on WhatsApp. Deborah did not openly make the said comment and it is possible she may have been quoted out of context or there was a mistake/error somewhere. No confirmation. No warning! She was bizarrely killed by her fellow students who are fanatical/radical Muslims or Islamists.Â
What is blasphemy? Blasphemy is insulting/disrespecting God or religion. The vile unspeakable killing of Deborah Samuel was/is blasphemously blasphemous. Very shockingly shocking and premeditated murder! An act of barbarism like that is insulting or disrespectful to God, the Creator of heaven and earth, living and non-living things.
The perpetrators are simply sick just like Nigeria is. They won't go unpunished even if they escape punishment in Sokoto where the majority sympathise with or support their stupid action. The State government has reportedly imposed a 24-hour curfew in that unlawful protesters, justifying the heinous crime, want the two people arrested (not confirmed) for the gruesome murder released. How original!
Honestly, the authorities in the State and other parts of Northern Nigeria where Sharia or Islamic law is in place are complicit... They are pretending for political reasons. Hypocrites! Again, Nigeria is a SECULAR country and the imposition of Sharia law in any region is blasphemous. Nigeria is NOT Iran or Pakistan. Agitations for the break-up of the country are sensible and must be stepped up. One Nigeria is long gone!
Deborah Samuel has been laid to rest. Her sudden and painful death will not be in vain. Everything is temporary, even blasphemy. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved family. Almighty God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
However, notoriously not a fan of politicians or politics, under the present circumstances, Nigeria needs next a Christian president/leader. Not even a moderate Muslim. The incumbent, a radical Muslim, has been a BIG disappointment/curse. Hence, the current VP, Yemi Osinbajo, is preferably preferable. He is a Christian and the best option, zoning/formula notwithstanding.
Those campaigning for or supporting Bola Tinubu, Osinbajo's political mentor/father, are not thinking straight. They are seemingly unwise because of what they will eat. Both men are from the Southwest and the power has to shift to the South. Agreed principle/idea!
Osinbajo-Tinubu saga: There is nothing like betrayal. The cacophony of noise recently to that effect is uncalled for. If Tinubu were to be a Christian, he would have been the VP today and ultimately deserved to run for the presidency. But he is a Muslim and so his time has passed. A Muslim-Muslim ticket is not allowed. It has been the normal/workable practice. Osinbajo did not betray him. He is constitutionally and morally qualified/fit to run. It is cheating to think otherwise.
Tinubu should look hard in the mirror. Maybe, he should ask Ousainou Darboe, a political mentor/father to Adama Barrow, the incumbent president of the new Gambia. No betrayal but destiny! And everyone is ambitious in life.Â
Finally, the whole world is closely watching/monitoring developments in Sokoto, Nigeria as regards the case of Deborah Samuel. Her killers must be brought to book. Death is a debt everybody has to pay, she did not deserve to die in such a barbaric manner. Justice for Deborah! The story continues... Peace!
