Protesting is a fundamental right and a crucial aspect of a healthy democracy. It allows citizens to express dissent, bring attention to important issues, and push for change.
It has to do with holding our leaders accountable. Protests hold elected officials and institutions accountable for their actions and inactions , most especially when it has to do with their policies formulation and implementation
It could as well used to Bring attention to injustices as it sheds light on social, economic, and political injustices, sparking necessary conversations and reforms.
Also, influencing policy changes that can lead to changes in laws, policies, and practices, improving the lives of citizens.
It could be to empower marginalized voices because they provide a platform for marginalized communities to express themselves and demand recognition.
It is also an instrument good for promotion of social change. Previously, protests have driven significant social movements, from civil rights to environmental activism.
It is an avenue to exercise our democratic rights. Protesting is a fundamental right, essential to exercising democratic freedoms, which could be used to raise awareness as well as to educate the public about critical issues, fostering empathy and understanding.
For those who think Protest is bad, have they forgotten it is an instrument of Building community as it is capable of uniting people around shared causes, creating a sense of community and solidarity with an intention to Challenge the status quo within a state for a purpose questioning the established norms and power structures, driving progress and innovation.
Most of all, it inspires future generations by leaving a legacy, inspiring future generations to continue fighting for justice and equality.
Who now says we should not protest? Even the present president did during the administration of GEJ because he felt things were not done as it should.
Now, what stops us from exercising our civic rights by protesting against some of the government policies that are inimical to well-being and survival?
However, remember, protesting is a peaceful and essential means of creating positive change. By exercising our right to protest, we strengthen our democracy and promote a more just society.
