VENO NEWS:Herbalist Caught in Surreptitious Bid to Bury Mutilated Body of 13-yr-old Girl in Bush
Date: 21-09-24

By Felix Mordi
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigation to ascertain the actual course of death of a 13-year-old girl, said to have been electrocuted.

Circumstantial evidences at the command’s disposal over the girl's death, have aroused suspicious connivance between the late Oriyomi Adegboyega's parents and a neighbour.

The said neighbour, Ogidan Mustapha, was caught by some vigilante members at about 1:30am on Friday, September 20, 2024 in a bush near the Igbosoro River in Igode Village,
where he had surreptitiously gone to bury the deceased.

More worrisome to the eagle-eyed vigilante operatives were the disjointed hands of the deceased, wrapped in a mat, while the remaining body, meant to be discarded, was also wrapped in another mat.

However, on receiving the bizarre incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Igode, expanded investigation activities by contacting the victim's mother, Peace Adegboyega, who claimed that the girl died of electrocution the previous day, at about 10:20am, adding that the family had resolved to bury her the following day.

Mrs. Adegboyega had expressed consternation when she was told that their neighbour was caught with the dismembered body of her daughter in the bush.

Meanwhile, while interrogating Ogidan, he disclosed to the investigation team that he acted on the instruction of the girl's father, Sunday Adegboyega, to help bury the deceased far from home.

To worsen the case, a search warrant conducted at Ogidan's residence by the DPO and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), two English Pump Action rifles and various local charms were recovered.

According to the command's spokesperson (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, the recovery of prohibited firearms found in Ogidan's possession, portends that he is a questionable character, adding that his arrest was also in connection to unethical herbalist practices.

Three suspects, engaged by Ogidan to dig the grave, wherein the late Oriyomi was to be buried, have also been taken into custody by the police.

"Further information on the case will be provided, and those arrested will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation", the PPRO said.
