VENO NEWS: From Corper to CEO: The Fried Fish Hustle That Changed My Life
Date: 20-03-25

In 2016, Emmanuel was posted to Bayelsa for his NYSC. Like most corps members, he arrived with dreams, excitement… and just enough money to survive camp.

After camp, reality hit. His PPA didn’t pay anything. His N19,800 allawee was barely enough. One evening, sitting outside his lodge hungry and frustrated, he watched a woman frying fish by the roadside. Customers were lining up. The aroma, the crowd… the money.

That night, an idea was born.

With just N10,000 from his savings, Emmanuel bought a small frying pan, a stove, and a few pieces of fish. He started frying fish in front of his lodge every evening. At first, people laughed. “Corper don turn fish seller,” they joked.

But Emmanuel kept going.

Word spread. His fried fish was delicious. Clean. Well-packaged. Within two months, he was making more than N40,000 monthly. He reinvested every kobo. Got a bigger pan. Then a deep fryer. He started packaging with branded paper wraps.

After NYSC, he didn’t look for a job.

He returned to his hometown in Ondo and registered his business — “Corper Fish Palace.” He expanded into grilled fish, pepper soup, and deliveries. Today, Emmanuel owns 3 outlets, employs 8 staff, and recently bought a car for logistics.

When asked how it all started, he simply says:

“I turned hunger into hustle.”

---

Moral: No idea is too small. Don’t wait for a white-collar job. That little hustle you ignore might be your ladder to greatness.
