VENO tv:Encounter With Late Prof.Jubril Aminu By Dr. Sunday Iwalaiye. Date: 04-06-25
THIS IS MY PERSONAL REMEMBERANCE OF PROF JUBRIL AMINU THAT DIED TODAY IN NIGERIA: I applied for employment as a physics graduate at the Nigeria Gas Company (a subsidiary of NNPC) in Warri in 1991. I was in the office of the recruitment manager to follow up with my employment status based on official appointment.
The hiring manager welcomed me to his office and said there was a recent development that put an embargo on all employment at NNPC, including all its subsidiaries as ordered by the then Prof Jubril Aminu, the Nigeria’s minister of petroleum resources. The recruitment manager showed me the official bulletin on this employment embargo from the minister’s office.
Few minutes later in his office, a group of young university graduates of Fulani tribe in their well-cut kaftan dress walked into the recruitment manager office with a letter from the same minister and was addressed directly to this hiring officer. The letter ordered the hiring manager to recruit them immediately and to also accommodate them in the NNPC guest house until further notice. The recruitment manager was not happy with this development. I knew his hands were tied.
This is a clear-case of nepotism, tribalism, religious favoritism and Northernization agenda. The late Prof Jubril Aminu was notorious for openly favoring the North with his policies and agendas as Nigeria’s minister for petroleum resources and education. I rest my case for time and posterity.
